About me: Kristy Harrington, LMHC
I get it because I've been there.
I became a therapist after many years of being in therapy myself. I've struggled in a lot of the same ways as my clients.
I tried living up to certain expectations and it led me down a path where I was burying a lot of who I was, what I'd be through and things I'd done. I completely avoided my own thoughts and feelings. There was a lot of: "I'm fine, it's fine, everything is fine." I was all too effective at putting on a happy face. |
As I approached 30, I found myself lost working in Corporate America, in unsatisfying relationships, unhappy with how life was going and drinking a lot to try and cope. On the outside, my life didn't look very different from a lot of people around me, but on the inside I felt totally out of place and barely recognized myself. I'd been through a lot up to that point, and I was doing what thought I was supposed to be doing - which was to get over it, and get on with life.
I eventually realized I needed help to dig myself out of the major rut I was in. At different points, I leaned on different resources - a therapist, meditation groups, a career coach, a sobriety community, art classes, and more. I'll be the first to say - I don't believe therapy can solve all of our problems nor is it a one-stop shop for a total life transformation. But therapy was a very powerful and integral part of my own journey. So much so, that I decided to switch careers completely and become a therapist myself. While I am well-educated as a therapist, my hard-won wisdom is at the foundation of who I am and how I work as a therapist.
So, after many, many changes - and setbacks - plus continued daily effort, I've managed to shift my own constant inner turmoil into more consistent inner peace. Don't get me wrong, life will always have it's ups and downs, and I don't have it all figured out. But I have learned enough to feel like I can navigate whatever comes my way, without losing myself.
And now, there is nothing I would rather do than guide others towards their own version of inner peace.

About my approach to therapy...
I will approach our work together with warmth, curiosity and open-mindedness. While my own life experience and hard-won wisdom is at the foundation of my work as a therapist, it is also very much informed by:

I also know that every individual is profoundly impacted by the culture and society where they live. I strive to educate myself on the experiences of others, especially those that are different from my own. I acknowledge and respect differences and I understand that those differences - whether between me and my clients, or my clients and others - will play an integral role in the process of therapy.
About teletherapy...
I offer teletherapy (aka telehealth) for clients located anywhere in the state of Massachusetts. Teletherapy provides a convenient, accessible option for engaging in therapy. Teletherapy means that our sessions will be held over video using a secure, web-based platform. More about teletherapy in the FAQs.
